Camp Ranger
Position Overview
The Camp Ranger for Ockanickon Scout Reservation, located in Pipersville, PA, is a key member of the Washington Crossing Council’s camping team, providing onsite management as well as
maintenance of camp facilities and properties. This full-time, exempt position is responsible for seasonal and year-round maintenance, health and safety, security, and program support duties,
as required.
We are seeking a live-on-property Camp Ranger who has general knowledge in plumbing, electricity, carpentry, vehicle maintenance, and general handyman skills. This person must be a
problem solver, able to work under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Protection and control of property and people.
o Supervise all use of the property.
o Patrol the property as necessary for trespassers, vandalism, and fire.
o Ensure a safe and healthy camp environment, know emergency procedures, and adhere to the Guide to Safe Scouting and BSA National Camp Standards. - Operation of physical facilities and property
o Keep all physical property and equipment, including buildings, tractors, mowers, trucks, trailers, and vehicles in safe operating condition.
o Be particularly alert to conditions that affect health, safety, sanitation, and good housekeeping practices.
o Ensure all facilities are properly maintained, cleaned, and prepared before campers’ and guests’ arrival, addressing any immediate needs as they arise.
o Work closely with the Council staff manager for effective facility operations and related matters. - Maintenance of physical facilities and property
o Follow and implement a comprehensive and proactive facilities maintenance system.
o Make regular inspections to determine essential repairs and corrective actions required.
o Perform general repairs as authorized, such as general lawn maintenance, tractor service, plumbing, electrical, automotive maintenance, and general carpentry. - Business responsibilities
o Comply with established Council business procedures, including accounting for petty cash and material purchases.
o Submit regular reports and maintain essential business records.
Supervise maintenance contractors as assigned. - Relationships
o Maintain harmonious relationships with staff, local officials and government services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring communities.
o Develop and grow relationships with local vendors.
Develop strong relationships with the volunteers to support overall camp operations.
o Give timely responses to emails and telephone messages. - Program
o Assist with Council program and activities as assigned.
Education
• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Advanced Trade School training is highly desirable.
Qualifications
• Mature adult 21 years of age or older.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate with others clearly.
• Have a safety mindset
• Must live on the camp property.
• Experience with general maintenance, tool usage, plumbing, electrical, general carpentry, lawnmowing, automotive maintenance, and tractor work.
• Must meet Scouting America eligibility requirements, including criminal background checks and Pennsylvania’s ACT 15 background check.
• Willing/able to complete Scouting America Ranger Certification, PA Pesticide applicator certification, and pool operator certification.
• Previous experiences with Scouting America are desired but not required.
• Must possess strong time and project management skills with the ability to plan personal time and schedule work without direct supervision.
• Ability to effectively enforce established council policies and procedures.
• Position requires working irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as demanded by the workload.
